Character History
History & Public Domain Status
Captain Nemo is the mysterious, brilliant, and vengeful anti-hero of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1870) and The Mysterious Island (1874). Revealed as the Indian Prince Dakkar, he abandoned civilization to roam the oceans in the advanced submarine Nautilus, fighting imperialism and seeking vengeance for his family's death.
First created in 1870, Captain Nemo is firmly in the public domain.
Current Incarnation (PDSH)
In our version of the charcter, Captain Nemo is an elderly but spry man in his 90s in 1915. He still capably captains the Nautilus and takes her on a journey with Professor Challenger at the behest of His Majesty's Government, despite his anti-imperialist stance.
